How does language influence our view of whiteness?
In the reading, whiteness is defined as an aspect the colonized conforms to and strives for (but is never to achieve) thus establishing blackness as less than or undesirable.
In addition to that, language is defined as a tool of Colonial power over the oppressed, which makes me think about what type of language are they referring to and how to achieve it. In the reading we learn that people of color decide to learn French in order to be closer to the white "language". Because the seminar culture has, in most case, always being white, accents outside of The language that is spoken outside of the white (European) circle is considered less academic sufficient to them. I think that for that reason it was an influence to American society today. The people of color "language" is seen as not "smart" to Americans today, and I believe for that reason it influences the white generation to think that they have an "better" way of speaking English.
