  • What concepts from this semester related to the readings are you inspired by? Why are you inspired by them?

  • What questions / relationships do you want to explore in your final project?

  • What do you want to make?

  • How will you experiment with materials/mediums?

  • Are you going to work individually or collaboratively?

For this studio project I am going to explore the concept of "The Negro + Language" reading this semester. I am inspired by it because I always find myself thinking about how language affects society and how the way I speak is seen by the people around me.

Some of the questions I want explore with this connect are: How does my Portuguese influence the way I speak English in the US vs when I speak English in Brazil?

How do people (Americans, Brazilians, non-Brazilians, non-Americans) see me when I have to speak with them in Portuguese vs English?

How do I see myself when speaking English vs when I speak Portuguese. Do I feel the need to change the way I think or interact with the people around me?

I think I want to make a collage combine of drawings of the things I feel, see, and know in regards to my relation to language, culture and society. (**give the example of when I am asked to speak English to a lower class Brazilian -Regis, person vs to a upper class Brazilian person- Lucca)

I will also try to use photoshop for this project so I can practice what I have been learning in my classes.

I am going to be working individually for this project because it will be a personal piece for me in relation to my home country and to where I am now both physically and mentally.
